July 4, 2013.
11:59pm.
Tibot said he could drive me back during break if I liked
today. I said if he was going back to his place in Vernon, it would be great if
he could just take me there because I'd like to go to some shops there. He
lives like a 3 minute walk from the centre-ville, which is exactly what it
sounds like, so it was perfect. I got to explore, walk around the main area,
see several different charcuteries, boucheries, fromageries, patisseries, and
chocolatiers - so I got a little cheese, salami type meat, and two chocolate
pieces and ate some as a snack at a little café where I got a coffee and used
the internet for blogging, emails, etc. I didn't really need, get, or do much,
but I love walking around and seeing those kinds of little shops, and I'm happy
Vernon is so accessible, so I'm very happy about that.
Break started at 3 and I returned with Tibot to the
restaurant at 6 when I continued working with him in the pastry kitchen.
At some point I knocked down some containers and kind of
yelp-screamed - not that loudly, but kind of funnily. (By the way I caught the
containers/they didn't fall to the ground.) Chef was in the pastry kitchen
because there's a machine they use for some dinner things too. I turned around
to see if Tibot and Chef saw, and they had - Tibot imitated my yelp, and Chef
raised an eyebrow at me and made some comment. I asked what, and Tibot relayed
Chef's thought's to me "tu es bizarre". A few minutes later, Chef
made this really peculiar noise - I don't even really know why, I think just
for the hell of it. We kind of looked at each other, and I said "and you
think I'M weird?" He said, '"well me, too, I'm weird - I'm weirder
than you are actually". Hehehe. It was a funny exchange.
So like I said in my other post, as Jean-Baptiste was
leaving and he walked by my after work, he told me they're getting drinks on
Saturday. And he asked if I want to come!!!!! Well...I would be embarrassed if
he knew how excited I am that he asked me. Hahahaha it's kind of embarrassing
just to acknowledge to myself how excited that makes me! But hey...I'm in
another country, I barely speak the language, it's my first culinary venture in
a real kitchen with a bunch of experienced chefs, etc - who have all been to
culinary school and have worked in a professional kitchen for awhile (furthermore,
in this kitchen, with each other for the past 9 months) - and I just got here
Sunday knowing exactly zero people. So being invited to go out to drinks with
the others is a big deal for me right now! I have no idea who is included in
the 'we' that's getting drinks...but it really doesn't matter to me at all.
I just can't wait.
And I kind of hope I work in the pastry kitchen again
tomorrow - not because I prefer being a pastry chef (I really don't which work
in itself I prefer right now - though in general I do want to work on cooking,
not pastry-ing) but because working with Tibot has been so great. He is
teaching me so much and is so patient about it and it's such a good environment
for me - especially since it's just us two, so it's not like I'm interrupting
anyone's conversation by talking and asking questions, etc.
Tibot asked if he can have a $1. Lol. he said he'd trade me
a euro, and I'd gain money off of it! Then he asked if I have a $5 because he's
never seen one. I told him I have a $100 with me. Which is true! But I forgot
to show him any of my bills. I will another time. When I'm no longer angry with
him for the moche couille thing maybe (see other blog post labeled "READ
THIS POST TRUST ME".)
I'm so excited for work tomorrow, for being here in general,
and for drinks on Saturday! (Though to be honest I may be more excited at the
fact that I was invited for drinks than the actually going out with them - just
because I'm more nervous about going out itself. But when am I not
nervous/terrified?)
Oh by the way, nobody said anything about my grey jacket.
Hahaha.
I just finished studying today and of course got on your blog to see if you had any updates; I was so excited to see so many new posts. That moche couille thing is too funny. I'm so glad you are having such a great time and there is such a fun atmosphere in the kitchen! Love you MooFace!
