I mentioned earlier that Fannie wrote me a goodbye card
before I left with a checklist of things to do while I'm in France. Now that I
think of it, it seems a little unfair to have a what-not-to-do item on a to-do
list, but one of the items was:
Don't cut yourself. Not even once.
Well, I hate to disappoint you, Fannie, but I already failed
your checklist :/
I don't if this is better or worse, but it wasn't even on a
knife! I was rinsing the vegetable shelves from the kitchen, which consist of a
flat surface, a space, and then a layer of a bunch of kind of metal strips.
Well to try to wash the flat surface part a bit I had to use a sponge and wedge
it between the metal strips. I was going quickly and scrubbing under the strips
and my pointer finger sliced against side of a metal strip, which turned out to
be sharper than I was expecting and effectively sliced off a little chunk of
the top of my finger on the tip-most joint. It's not like it's a bad cut but it
started pouring out blood and didn't stop. I indicated that I needed a
band-aid, and Jean-Baptiste (by the way, we call him Jean-Ba for short so I'll
probably start writing that) took a paper towel, wrapped it around my finer,
and put a glove over. I was kind of amused at him using a paper towel... Later
on I needed a new wrapping because when we ate I took off my glove. And then
Youaine used an actual band-aid thing (that you cut to the thickness you need)
and then again you put a glove over so you can still wash your hands and what
not. The third time I was able to do it myself, which was good.
Anyway, first cut. But from a vegetable shelf...so maybe
sillier, but also I think less indicative of being unskillful.. :)
