So today during clean-up I was the one to use the hose thing
to spray down all the counter tops. It's the thing where you twist the knob for
the host first, and then you press down the handle so that the water spurts out
of the head.
The thing is, both ends of the head part kind of look like
they could be the front...and I happened to choose the wrong one to face the
counter top. Yyyyyyeeeeeppp...I sprayed myself in the face with water today.
But it was the funniest thing. I stood there after with the
hose in my hand and just started laughing. So then everyone else in the kitchen
- Chef, Jean-Baptiste, and Youaine turned to look at me. And of course they all
starting cracking up too, and Chef kind of shook his head/rolled his eyes. Yeah, it was pretty embarrassing. But it was
also so funny it was definitely worth it.
I also made everyone laugh NOT at me too, and that was maybe
even more exciting. (As sad as that sounds, let me tell you, it's hard to
understand and make jokes in a language you barely know...) So basically, Chef
threw his paper towel towards the trash can, as per ushe. And as per ushe, he
missed. I was doing the dishes in the sink, which is right next to the trash,
and his paper towel fell into the sink water. So I pull out the paper towel,
squeezed it out, and was about to throw it away, but Chef says "Non,
attendez" (basically 'hold on'), comes over, and takes the paper towel
from me. Then he walks back to where he threw it from the first time, and
tosses it towards the trashcan again. Just like always, he misses again (also
everyone was watching this throw). So I pick it up, throw away the paper towel
for him, and say, "Un jour, Chef!". That means, "One day,
Chef!". In a kind of mocking tone. Well since it's such a common phrase
here, it probably wouldn't have merited much of a response, but I think maybe
it's not so much a saying in France. In any case, they were all very amused,
and Jean-Baptiste repeated it to Chef, I guess just to make sure he heard me; I
also think everyone was a maybe surprised that I was making fun of Chef already.
But surprised in a good way.
Anyway, I don't know how good of a story that was. For me
though, it was a big deal. So I'm writing about it. Basically, I feel like I'm quickly
becoming a very incorporated part of the team, which makes me really happy.
