Morning and Train Recap

June 30, 2013

Well it's 2:15. I already wrote about my arrival and what not. But this morning and my train ride was so cute it's worth writing about. For me. You can decide whether it's worth reading about. And I do have some time before I have to be at the restaurant. (BUT NOT MUCH!) By the way, unfortunately I don't think there's any Internet at the house...that's kind of a shame. I'll ask the others about it later. I'm sure there's somewhere around I can access it though. After all, they wrote emails to me! Oh. Right. Le Jardin des Plumes has wifi. I forgot. Well, I guess I can bring my computer to work maybe. I don't think I will today, because I want to see what everything is like before I do. But soon enough.

So this morning I left Pascal and Helène's house at 8:10 - like I said, he and Gloria took me to the train station (and took my bags all the way up and down the stairs, to the gate, and even onto the train for me). But before I left, everyone was awake and ate breakfast and was there to see me off. It was so pleasant and sweet. Pascal made an omelet for me. It had nothing in it, was just plain egg, but was superb! He said earlier that omelets have a technique to them, that they're not actually easy to make. And his omelet really was very different from the ones you typically make at home or get at American restaurants. It was fairly runny (just how I always ask for/like/make mine at home, actually), and it had several kind of folds in it. It's kind of hard to explain. But it was really tasty, and surprisingly different. Anyway, so I had the omelet, some sauccisson, and some cheeses. Including Petit Basque! (Gloria bought some yesterday at the supermarché.) It's one of my mom and family's favorite kinds of cheeses that we get a home! (But it was much cheaper here.)

At some point in the morning, I didn't hear it, but apparently Guillaume (Gloria's 5 year old nephew) asked his parents why I'm leaving already. Oh my goodness. I thought I was going to melt. Like I said in my last post, quest for a French boy: complete. As I was leaving all of them said goodbye to me. I gave Guillaume, Elise, and Elouise big hugs. And then was reminded of the French way when Helène gave me the kiss on each cheek. Hehe. I left a little thank you note for all of them on their table. (I wrote it last night - it took me kind of awhile because it was in French haha...my writing needs some work. Google translate helped. I hope it doesn't have too many bad mistakes. I guess my speaking has countless mistakes as well, so oh well...) They gave me a little snack/packed lunch they made for me. It was the sweetest thing. They are all so sweet. They gave me a bag with a banana, a fruit cup WITH A REAL METAL SPOON (I wouldn't have taken the real metal spoon if I had known, but It was wrapped in a napkin so I didn't realize until I ate my fruit cup at the train station), four kinds of cheese wrapped in foil and rillettes and sauccisson wrapped in another foil. They thought it was funny but they gave me all the ingredients just wrapped up because I don't eat bread. Ah what a wonderful family and stay in Laval. Oh yes, and I brought the rest of my macaroons (after giving the two kids one each and eating one myself this morning) - 4 of them, and my chocoales from the little shop. It all served as a perfect lunch in the station! And I ate one of the praline chocolates after, which was one of the best chocolates I've ever eaten in my life. Really. And that says a lot. Because I've eaten a lot of good chocolates. But man oh man was that good.

Okay, so my train ride. So on my train from Laval to Paris, I sat next to this little boy. He was very, very cute. He saw me blogging and asked if I speak English. I told him yes and asked if he read English. He said no, but he's been studying it in school for two years. So far this was all in French. However, he then said, in English, "My name is Benjamin". It was really cute. I told him my name as well, that I'm from California, and visiting my childhood nanny in Laval, where she grew up. He is from Laval, he's 12, and he was going to visit...oh I don't know. I asked for the name several times. It kind of sounded like Londre, which is London, but I thought he said something about the south of France, so it might have been Lange (which French pronunciation...kind of like l-aww-nj, not l-ayy-nge) or something. Anyway, after I finished blogging he asked me if I wanted to play Uno. That was really cute too. I of course said yes, but when he asked his mother for the game she said we were arriving too soon. So he showed me some of his stuffed animals, a Daffy Duck cartoon (which I really didn't understand...it was in French and he explained it in French, but there was some strong duck who broke through his shirt when he flexed...). Then I asked him if he liked macaroons. He said yes. I asked if he wanted one now and he said yes to that too. So I said if it's okay with your mother I'll give you one. So he got her attention (she was right across the aisle next to him), I asked her if I could give him one, and she said yes, so I let him choose. Then I saw his sister was there too next to the mom, so I asked her if she wanted one too and she shyly smiled and said yes. I ate one as well with them. And now I have one more! It was very satisfying to share with them, they were just so cute. And so kind and nice and friendly. The girl was also adorable - really, really pretty as well - she's nine but will be a beautiful young lady soon! Her name was Marina I think she said. It was such a pleasant train encounter/train ride. At the end, Benjamin asked his mom if she would tell his teacher he met a girl who spoke English. I could not have held back my smile.

Well, that's all for now. 3 hours exactly. I have no doubt I will have lots to write about tonight...
